OUR HISTORY

As part of the Rotary International never ending drive to invigorate the world of Rotary. Past RI Pres. Herbert G. Brown throw down a challenge to bring in 85,000 new members and 949 new clubs during RY 1995-96. PDG Danny Yu tasked the District Extension Committee under the Chairmanship of PDG Herman Gamboa to study and make the corresponding recommendations for the extension of new clubs in the district.  New clubs were recommended to be organized in the following areas: Quiapo, San Miguel, Binondo, Sampaloc, San Nicholas, Santa Cruz, Divisoria, Paco, Ermtia, Malate and Tondo.

To implement the said recommendation, PDG Danny Yu appointed PDG Sonny T. Ventura, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Downtown Manila as the District Governor’s Special Representative and his club to be the sponsoring club.  On the 8th of September 1995, during a regular club meeting, a consensus was taken to undertook that great task.  On the following week, the Board of Directors passed a resolution appointing Past Secretary/Director Alex Yu Huang, a young, dynamic and dedicated Rotarian then as Chairman of the Club’s Extension Committee.  A survey on the proposed areas to be covered was made and the results justified the formation of a new club.

PDG/CP Alex Y. Huang carried the burden of enticing his friends and associates doing business and/or practicing their professions in the proposed area to attend the pre-organizational Rotary Information and orientation meetings.  Through the leadership of PDG/DGSR/CP Sonny T. Ventura and the support of the pillars of RCDM:  PDG Johnny Aruego, Past Presidents Caloy Rosales, Winnie Abulencia, Along Co, Willie Yu, Johnny T.K. Cheng, Jr., Mar Sandoval and Johnny Blanco-Antillon, an intensive Rotary information and inspirational talks were given at five (5) consecutive preliminary and informative orientation meetings held at the Century Park Hotel.

Kind words fell upon to the majority of the prospective candidates who later signified their willingness to become part of the worldwide movement called “ROTARY.”

PDG Johnny Aruego suggested the name THE ROTARY CLUB OF MANILA METRO.  It was eventually approved and the new club was conceptualized.  The regular weekly meeting place and time was set at 7:30 PM at Century Park Hotel, Manila.  The coat of arms, banner and bannerettes of the club were designed and created.

On October 10, 1995 the new  club was formally organized as a provisional club through the concerted efforts of DGSR Sonny Ventura and the Council of Advisers. The charter of the Rotary Club of Manila Metro was approved by Rotary International on the 14th of November 1995, in a record time of just four working days.

With the enthusiasm of the outstanding leadership of its Charter President, officers and the full support of the sponsoring club and the District, the Rotary Club of Manila Metro general membership assured to be a good disciples of the Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self.”  Through the years, the club continuously shines by rendering selfless and untiring support to the less fortunate people of the society. The club’s regular meeting place is now at ALOHA Hotel, Malate, Manila.  The club milestones:
